NEIL MCCABE | The Green Plan

Fireman Neil is the founder of The Green Plan, an accredited model helping businesses reduce their carbon footprint & save on energy costs.

The Green Plan has made Neil’s home firehouse of Kilbarrack the first carbon-neutral firehouse in the world. By spreading its best practices, Neil wants to encourage communities to go green.

Since 2010, 8 out of 14 Dublin fire stations have implemented The Green Plan, accruing over €11 million in savings and reducing energy demand by 44%. The savings are ring-fenced and reinvested in the next fire station's energy, water and waste reduction projects. The methodology has been written into the Dublin Fire Brigade Business Plan, the Dublin City Council Business Plan, and is being applied to policy at the EU level. It has been recognised as a best practice by INTEREG on behalf of the EU Commission, in keeping with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The GreenPlan is now available as a free online learning course with ALISON, training over 500 students globally in only its first four weeks. Each student receives The GreenPlan toolkit and procedures, and is empowered to lower their communities carbon footprint by 20%, reinvesting the energy savings in social good projects.
