MARY NALLY | Third Age

Mary Nally is the founder of Third Age Ireland, a national voluntary organisation that promotes the value and contribution of older people to their communities.

Third Age offers three programmes to tap into the power of older people, including the Senior Helpline, a national listening helpline; SAGE: advocacy services for senior residents; and Fáilte Isteach, which provides conversational English classes to new immigrants.

Third Age has over 1,400 volunteers countrywide, working as tutors, listeners, advocates and befrienders. Thousands of people of all ages benefit each week by volunteering on projects, and participating in programmes, which include lifelong learning, health and social initiatives. In 2016, the Fáilte Isteach model of providing English classes to new migrants was exported to Germany, Greece and Italy with the help of Ashoka.
